E-Passport Application Procedures and Requirements

SUSPENSION OF PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCESSING DUE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID – 19) PANDEMIC

THIS IS TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND THE NIGERIAN COMMUNITIES IN ZAMBIA IN PARTICULAR AS WELL AS VISA APPLICANTS THAT DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) PANDEMIC, THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION IN LUSAKA, ZAMBIA HAS SUSPENDED THE PROCESSING OF NIGERIAN PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCESSING TILL FURTHER NOTICE.
THIS MEASURE, WHICH IS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, IS IN LINE WITH THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT’S CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION GUIDELINE OF “SOCIAL DISTANCING” AS A “COMMUNITY MITIGATION STRATEGY” TO LIMIT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19. IT IS A CONSCIOUS EFFORT BY GOVERNMENT TO REDUCE CONTACT BETWEEN PEOPLE AND HOPEFULLY STEM COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION OF THE VIRUS.
HOWEVER, THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION ZAMBIA WILL CONTINUE TO ISSUE EMERGENCY TRAVEL CERTIFICATES (ETC.) AND VISAS TO THOSE WHO NEED TO TRAVEL URGENTLY. APPLICANTS FOR ETC. AND VISAS SHOULD, AS USUAL, FORWARD THEIR APPLICATIONS BY MAIL, ATTACHING THE RELEVANT DOCUMENTS. THE ETC. OR VISA WOULD BE PROCESSED AND MAILED BACK TO THE APPLICANTS ACCORDINGLY.
THE IMMIGRATION SECTION OF THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF MAILING OUT ALL PASSPORTS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN PRODUCED. THIS PROCESS SHOULD BE CONCLUDED BY WEDNESDAY MARCH 18TH AND APPLICANTS MAY START TRACKING THE PROGRESS OF DELIVERY THEREAFTER.
THE NIGERIAN COMMUNITIES IN ZAMBIA ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO STRICTLY ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES PROVIDED BY THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, DEPARTMENTS OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND HEALTH AUTHORITIES IN THEIR VARIOUS PROVINCES AND COMMUNITIES. PLEASE, KEEP YOURSELVES AND FAMILIES SAFE.

THIS IS TO INFORM THE NIGERIA COMMUNITY IN ZAMBIA SEEKING TO APPLY FOR A NEW NIGERIA E-PASSPORT, THAT NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION IN LUSAKA, ZAMBIA HAS THIRTY-TWO (32) PAGES PASSPORT BOOKLET AVAILABLE ONLY NOW.

THIS IS TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT AS FROM MONDAY 11 MARCH, 2019 ITEMS SUCH AS PHONES, BAGS ETC WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE MISSION.

Please note that the Consular Section responsible for (Visa and Passport processing) is not opened to the general public on Mondays.The Passport Section opens from 9 am to 1.00 pm Tuesday-Friday except during Public Holidays, both in Zambia and Nigeria. If you have an appointment on Monday for Passport processing at the High Commission, please kindly show up from Tuesday-Friday. Procedures for E-Passport

To apply for the standard Nigerian E-passport or a reissue (RENEWAL) of an expiring/expired one, you will need to do the following:

Visit this website: https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/passport/epassport

Step 1

In the Passport menu, choose the E-Passport Application Form Option. If you have a Yahoo or Google account, you may use it to log into the system, otherwise select the Open ID option and create an account for the application process.

Step 2

Please complete the form and print. Thereafter, click on the Submit Button.

Step 3

Once the application has been successfully submitted, you will be provided with a Reference Number and Application ID. Please print it out, as you will need it later in the application process

Step 4

Click on the close button to continue the application process. At the bottom of the page, click on the Proceed to checkout button to begin the payment process.

Step 5

On the Cart page, double check to make sure that name in the cart corresponds to the appropriate applicant. Click on the Proceed to Online Payment Button.

Step 6

Choose the credit card payment option or the money order payment option and click next. If the money order payment option is selected, please follow the on screen instructions for mailing the money order. Once the money order is received, you will receive a confirmation email. If the credit card option is used, allow 30 minutes for the payment to register, and proceed to the next step. For credit card payments, the applicant may only use his or her credit for payment of fees. No third party credit cards will be accepted.

Step 7

Once the payment confirmation email is received, go to https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/pages/welcome

Step 8

In the application menu, click on the Query Your Application Payment Status option. Select E-Passport in the application menu and enter the Reference Number and Application ID. Click on the Search Record button. The next page will be the Online Application Confirmation page.

Step 9

On the Online Application Confirmation page, scroll to the bottom of the page and print the Payment Receipt and also print Application Confirmation. Attach these documents to the expired passport, or to the rest of the application documents (first issuance).

Step 10

The applicant should appear at the Nigerian High Commission Lusaka on the appointment date, with his or her expired Nigerian passport and required documents. If the application is for a first issuance, and the applicant is under the age of sixteen, the following requirements must also be met.

Photocopy of Immigration Status (Study Permit) in Zambia.

    Original letter of admission from institution or evidence of enrollment

    An administrative fee of _____ Money Order payable to Nigerian High Commission, Zambia.

    Other Requirements

    Physical Presence

    All passport applicants are required to be physically present on the appointment date specified on the payment confirmation receipt. If the applicant cannot be present on the appointment day, the applicant may reschedule another appointment. Applicants will only be able to reschedule the appointment after the initial appointment day has passed.

    Pick Up

    An applicant will be required to present pick-up slip and the expired Nigerian Passport before receiving the E-Passport.

    Proxy Pick-up

    • Letter of Authorization duly signed by an applicant requesting proxy pick-up
    • Valid I. D. card of authorized individual picking up Applicant’s passport
    • Applicant’s pick up slip, and Applicant’s expired Nigerian Passport.
